Our Chevelle project is really taking shape! In this the “final chapter” we will work our way through several different phases of the project:
- Roll Cage Installation
- Body Modification – Wheelwell “Stretching”
- Tin Work Installation and Fuel Cell Mounting
- Body Work and Paint.
The roll cage is an integral part of any type of racing chassis, whether its for Drag Racing, Stock Car Racing or even Indy Car Competition. The cage ties the new rear chassis, body and front suspension together to provide a rigid yet safe structure to our Chevelle. The first photo sequence shows the 10 Point Custom Cage that Ron fabricated and installed in our Chevelle.
In order to accommodate the huge rear tires, the rear Wheelwells of the Chevelle had to be “stretched”. This will also ease in the removal of the rear tires when needed. This photo sequence shows some “in progress” shots of both wheelwells and a shot with the new rear tires installed.
The “tin work” of our Chevelle is what may be the most time consuming part of the overall project; well, except for the body and paint maybe? The installation of the Wheel Tubs, tin work and the mounting of the Fuel Cell is shown in the next group of photos:

Following the installation of the tin work, fuel cell, etc. the Chevelle was put back on its “wheels” and sent away to the body shop for the bodywork and paint phase of the project. Here are some “spy photos” of the bodywork process and new silver paint along with traditional “rally stripes” on the “A Dream Realized Chevelle:
